Administration Files Lawsuit on Property Tax Levy
The Administration of Mayor Chris Beutler today asked the District Court to issue a writ of mandamus to require the City Council to set the property tax rate necessary to balance the lawfully adopted City budget.
In August, Mayor Beutler vetoed a 2016-2018 budget passed by the City Council on a four-to-three vote. The City Council did not have five votes to override the Mayor's veto. The City Charter states that because the Council did not pass another budget in the time required by the Charter and City ordinance
Committee Investigates EPA’s Attack on Power Plants
The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works convened a hearing this afternoon to hear testimony on how the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed carbon regulations would harm hardworking families, minorities, and businesses of all sizes. The committee also investigated the Affordable Reliable Energy Now Act (ARENA) bill cosponsored by U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.).
Tax Year 2015 Homestead Exemption
The Nebraska Department of Revenue, Property Assessment Division (Department), reminds property owners that the Nebraska Homestead Exemption Application or Certification, Form 458, must be filed with their county assessor on or before June 30, 2015.
Grand Opening of Catalyst Building Set for Monday
Mayor Chris Beutler and Block 38 LLC will participate in the grand opening and naming announcement for the downtown Catalyst building at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23. The ten-story building is on the north half of the block bounded by 13th, 14th, "Q" and "P" streets. The $31 million project includes 17,000 square feet of first-floor retail, six floors of City-operated parking, 52 units in the Parkhaus residential complex on the top three floors, and a green roof
